Who We Are
Our Mission at Magenta Momz is to promote the mental health of mothers with special needs children. There are many non-profits dedicated to special needs children, but few that deliver the products and services that moms need for self-care. That’s where our non-profit comes in.
We provide free mental health support around Atlanta to Magenta Momz – those amazing mothers who care for beautiful children with special needs. Our Magenta Momz often encounter ongoing medical tests and procedures, recurrent emergencies and frequent hospitalizations of their children.
We aspire to support a mother’s mind and body, and their children with disabilities, by providing self-care activities that educate, encourage and cater to their mind, body and soul.
Our Founder/My Story
My name is Maria Manning. I am the Founder of Magenta Momz and a special needs mom to my child, Jaylen. For years I experienced (and still sometimes feel) periods of mental exhaustion. I was unable to access simple things to make myself feel happy or necessary down-time. This is the reality of life for special needs moms.
With my mother’s help, I worked during the day at a corporate office, worked on my design degree at least three nights a week and hung out with my friends occasionally. After my mom passed away, I struggled to get respite and provide self-care for myself that I desperately needed. Despite my efforts, my mental health suffered terribly and resulted in bouts of depression.
As mothers of special needs children, many of us avoid sharing our struggles because people often offer advice that just isn’t practical. Every mom faces different struggles, however the common theme that I have found is that we should ALL take better care of our mental health because it is best for us and our children. Magenta Momz is a safe place to benefit from services provided by a mom who gets it.
Our History
I always wanted to give back and create something that would provide support for myself and my son at the same time. It took me many years to figure out what the program would look like. In 2021, I accepted an opportunity to present my story to the local news channel 11 ALIVE. I was nervous about sharing my story, but the experience accelerated my desire to help all special needs moms struggling mentally. I recruited a board of directors to birth MAGENTA MOMZ INC.
We started out with delivering self-care packages to local moms. Since then, we have held many events for our Magenta Momz.
We are working towards our vision of a world where every mother of a special needs child is mentally well. We need the support of our entire community (individuals, small businesses, corporations, and you!) to keep our moms mentally healthy and well.
